V.A. ROMO POST 3165 P.O. BOX 111 NEGAUNEE, MI. 49866 Fax-Phone 475-9183 E-mail negvfw3165@aol.com Web site negauneevfw.org Dear Comrades, First of all, let’s give another round of applause for the Men’s Auxiliary for their two fundraisers last month for the Post. Oktoberfest was well attended and the Cudighi Feed was a success as usual. Thank you to all who supported these two projects. We really need to get more members to frequent the canteen to generate more revenue to offset our increased utility costs. I wish we were self-sufficient enough to offer our members more amenities that they richly deserve for their service to America. Don’t forget the time change on November 2nd. Also that is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. Furthermore, many may also want to check your furnace filters; and anyone with wood stove, to check to make sure their chimneys are clean before winter. Our plans for a four tap beer dispenser are still in the works but put on hold. Our original plans didn’t pan out, but we have an alternate plan in the works. It will be done, but we have no definitive date for completion. Don’t forget to vote on November 4th. Of course we don’t care who you vote for, but exercise your right to do so. Also that same day we will host bingo at the D.J. Jacobetti Facility. On November 8th we will be having our Veterans Day Banquet. This years meal will consist of: Oven baked chicken, Ravioli with meat sauce, Salad, Garlic bread, Saffron cake, Coffee or Milk for $5.00. Cutoff date is November 7th. Sign up at the canteen. Veterans Day ceremony at the Veterans Park by City Hall will be at 11:00 AM on the 11th as usual. Please attend and come back to the canteen for lunch presented by Karen Wills and Jill Howard. On opening day of Deer Season on the 15th we are hosting a deer hunters widow night. $0.50 cent off all drinks. Birthday drink night will be on the 19th. If you shop at Econo, please bring your sales receipt down to the club. We can get a percentage of the total sales from them. Again, please patronize the canteen. We really need to boost our income during the winter months to cover our utility costs. We cannot contribute to veterans causes if we can’t even make ends meet for our own bills. Good luck on the hunt. TAPS: Jack Williams, Henry Isabelle Dean Maki Post Commander |

| Ladies Auxiliary Notes Dear Sisters, Our regular monthly meeting will be on the 11th at the usual hour of 7:00 PM. Please try to attend and join us for coffee following the meeting. Last months meeting was our inspection meeting. The floor work, chairmen’s reports and pot luck afterward came off beautifully. 14th District Sr. Vive President Sue DeRousa and District Chief of Staff Kathy DeNise gave us great reports. I’m so proud of our auxiliary. Thanks so much to those of you that continue to support our monthly Bingo party at the Jacobetti Facility, the workers and the bakers (twice last month), but additional help continues to be needed. On October 25th, “Make a Difference Day”, some of our sisters went to Iron Mountain and sponsored a Bingo party. It was fun; again, thanks for your support. On November 8th the Annual Veterans Day Dinner will be held at the Post. Please attend, check at the canteen for more details. On the 11th at 11:00 AM, the Post will be conducting services at the monument in front of City Hall. Please make an effort to attend. And join us for lunch afterward. Saturday November 15th is “Deer Hunters Widow Night“. 50 4 off your favorite drink. Come down for whatever, maybe some card playing, music, etc. Bring some friends, relax the evening away. COMMUNITY SERVICE: Sisters we must report what we do in the community. Donations of money, food, time, cards sent, etc. Date, mileage, and a little of what you did. Children’s birthday cards are reported under Youth Activities. If you fly the Flag or have a magnet on your vehicle supporting veterans. Let Renae know please. Continue to save Campbell Soup labels, cancelled stamps, and box tops for education. If you haven’t, it’s not too late to make a donation to our Phantom Tea. MEMBERSHIP: Welcome to our newest members: Cheryle Flann and Arlene Robinson. Check your dues card. If it says 2008, it is time to get your dues in. The Post and both Auxiliaries are always looking for new members. If you have a relative or friend that’s eligible, invite them to join. Come down and meet our new bartender, Bill; and welcome Sue back. The canteen now serves hot chocolate. HOSPITALIZED: Jackie Almay, recuperating at home. SYMPATHY TO: Margherita Dupras on the loss of her sister-in-law, our Auxiliary Sister Elaine Bollero. Pearl Ballzarini on the loss of her son. Please keep these families in your prayers. I attended the Pow Wow at the Sault this past month and met and spoke to our national President “Dixie”. She thought she was at the end of the line until I explained that the 14th District extended over 150 miles west of the Soo, and the 15th was beyond that. I do hope all have a Happy Thanksgiving and please keep those in our armed forces and their families in your thoughts and prayers. And last, but most importantly, do some research and be an informed voter on November 4th. Sharon Conners, Auxiliary President |

| Men’s Auxiliary Notes:
First, thank you to all who participated in our Oct. 18th cudighi sale. The crew did a great job again; expected nothing less, and I appreciate the effort. Smooth as glass. Thanks, guys-and the ladies who helped out. Due to deer season, we are canceling our November meeting (as in the past), and hope to see a good turnout for the next one, on Tuesday, December 16th. Sr. Vice President Russ “Frenchy” Bergman filled in for me at the October 21st meeting; Thanks, Frenchy. A Happy Thanksgiving to all, and though the economy is shaky at present, we hope everyone will remember to thank the Almighty for the blessings we still enjoy. Good luck to our family of hunters; be safe in the woods. We could still use some more help at Thursday night Bingo. It isn’t hard work, and the benefits are worth the small effort expended. Stop by, even for an hour or so; might even find it’s fun. The few ladies who work the concession are steady but overworked as well. Stop in and see what you can do-or bake some brownies or cake. Remember those serving our country, whatever their duty station. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers. It’s easy to lose track of this during the current political season, but we ought to think of them often. Pray for wisdom for their leaders and for their safety. . And….Fly the flag. A thought for the day: “Votes are collared under democracy not by talking sense but by talking nonsense.” _ H.L. Mencken Tom Sharland, President, Men’s Auxiliary |
