ALL ABOUT US v.a. Room VFW Post 3165 The Negaunee, Michigan, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States was Chartered on November 12, 1934. Elected as the first post commander was Paul d. Barasa, and there were 45 charter members. They held their meetings in a vacant apartment above a local tavern, known as Ki's bar. The alter used for post ceremonies consisted of a six inch fir plank and was supported by two old orange crates. The members attending the meetings had to sit on the floor as there was no furniture. The membership grew from the original 45 chartered members to 160 by 1947. It was in 1947 that they purchased the Swedish hall on gold street for their first post home and to this day still is.
